Could've been a really nice moment, instead of this unceremonious "Oh, I knew all along xDDD ".

I think that's Allen being in denial. Allen already knew something was up when he first picked them up and noticed the crests back in ch1. In ch2, we learned Allen has been telling the girls to keep their hands wrapped up to hide the crests.
