Because there was no reason to expect an adult to act that way? Particularly as you also would feel sympathetic when seeing a husband so abused domestically that he doesn't dare run after his wife with a dropped shoe, after having been told by her to stay still.

You're making a lot of assumptions. It's unclear if both parents were present the moment the kid disappeared.
Going by page 8 top left panel it appears that the husband was keeping watch by himself.
Even if the both of them were there if she told him to watch whether she was distracted with something else or not, he is at fault. And so is she, but it's more than understandable that she would then irrationably lash out as a worrying mother. That doesn't make it domestic abuse. It's also not too implausible that the pedophile cheating husband who leers at schoolgirls in front of his wife is also a scumbag in their private life. Moronic to even compare it to domestic abuse.
