On my first trip, after I reached Mt Mitake, I went on to Mt Odake, and then down the ridge via Mt Nokogiri to Okutama station. On my second trip, I turned left (i.e. west) at Mt Nokogiri and climbed up Mt Gozen, before heading down another ridge to the dam on Lake Okutama. The whole area around Okutama is a paradise for hiking (or trail running), and there's a bus service (well there was pre-COVID, dunno about now) to take you further down the valley, so you can even reach peaks like Mt Kumotori in a day trip from Tokyo (done it, tough but rewarding).
