Hibiki is shown to really want a boyfriend, she's constantly thinking about having one and going out with a boy. However, most of her interactions with boys happen offs-creen, because this is primarily a yuri manga, there's no need to show boys especially when they don't contribute to the story. That's why Hibiki dating a boy and being cheated on are all happening off-screen.

Hibiki and Nao are honestly just good friends. They are both in student council and the same age, so they get along well, but their interactions never have any hints of romantic relationship, unlike Hibiki/Midori.

Also, if you read all the chapters featuring this pairing (here's the link to read: https://dynasty-scans.com/pairings/hibiki_x_midori) you will find that the author is actually VERY consistent with the details of them.
Here's a few examples: Midori's art does actually get a bit better each time she shows it to Hibiki; Midori gets more and more comfortable with having her picture taken (she hated taking selfies in ch210, but by 258, she can even pose while taking pictures); Hibiki enjoying her talk with Midori no matter how weird it is;...

I think we readers are more prone to forget about the ships and therefore think it's "all over the place", but actually, the ship is well-written with lots of details.

But those "important details" about her dating a guy and then being cheat on are told already and not actually important, Do you actually want to see which guy she was dating, which girl he cheated with from which school at what time? that will only make for a long chapter of forgettable guys hurting Hibiki until a new one shows up and does the exact same, NO ONE wants to see that!
And I actually remember each pair's interaction, is not really hard, if this is all over the place then One piece is a total disaster and people who can follow the progress are inhuman... Then most fans are.

It is important because we at least need the set up for the information. While we don't need to see her actually dating or any of that, but it still need tell be properly and set up, like show how she is worry or talk about dating or looking for boyfriend here and there. But the last time we saw her, she given another flag with Nao, and now that just act like it is never happen. Thing is, both girl have trouble to finding love and affection, and make both open thier view as they see healthy and loving relationship, between girls, not only we don't even see any leading up from neither character, we just also got drop bunch of vague information, why Hibiki crying ? wait she got cheat on ? wait, she dating someone ? wait, she doesn't learn from past mistake and just dating new guy ? i thought she actually learn what a loving relationship is like and know better now ? There are many thing get skip since the last time we saw her here.

this is mentioned literally constantly. If you actually bothered to read the chapters in the link I provided, you will see that one of Hibiki's main characteristic is that she WANTS A BOYFRIEND.

The last time these two (Hibiki/Nao) appears together as a ship was in ch251.

Meanwhile, since chapter 250, Hibiki/Midori has appeared together 5 times as a ship in ch258, 271.2, 277.1, 278 and this chapter. In ch258, Hibiki even admits that Midori makes her laugh the most. It's very clear which ship the author is going for here.

It's 2023 and there are still people with this mindset wtf? OP has over 100 volumes with over 1100 NAMED characters! The amount of relationships are fucking insane, and most fans don't remember all of them. However, the author has RARELY made plot holes regarding relationships. For some major characters, you can even trace their lineage back 3-4 generations!

You, as the reader, may skim the chapters, forget the characters and their relationships, but don't assume the authors are just like you!
