We learned early on that he met her when she was trying to hang herself, and I think it was implied that she's killed herself many times before he entered the loop. One assumes she was trying to permanently get out of the loop via death, but no matter how she tried to die, she always came back the next day.

She was trapped in the loop for SO long, before he joined. She can't exist without him, at this point. Not without getting out of the loop. So if he's dead for the rest of the day, she'd rather kill herself and restart the day with him, rather than spend the rest of the day without him.
