the manga started releasing one year before the anime aired. Going by the constant pace of a chapter every 2-3 weeks, the manga will never catch up to the anime, especially after seaason 2 airs. Even then, the Light Novel will have more content unadapted by even the anime.

I would reccomend the LNs if you have a choice, just because there is interesting stuff that was cut and other than the first episode the animation is not that great.

"Indirect kiss" with a plastic cup feels forced... You'd need to intentionally put your lips on the exact same place on the rim. It's not a bottle or a can with a small opening.

Yeah, it was skipped. The dinner with the parents got summarized into a splash image while Mahiru said, "I feel like I got a taste of real happiness." The anime did this at least once before, but it hasn't been all that often, so far. It is a shame to skip their interactions, but at least we got the implication they had a lovely meal with his parents and that she really enjoyed the experience.

I suppose they start skipping things more often from here on in, but so far it's only been maybe two scenes truncated to a splash image flashback while just about everything else has been an actual scene, even if it's not nearly as well-executed as the manga. I know of only one other scene or conversation besides the two recent instances that was outright 'skipped', and I still remember it happens later in the anime from my first watching. I'll get to it eventually as I do the rewatch-while-reading thing confirming that, up to this point, they've mostly shown the same scenes or conversations, but they're definitely better fleshed out and more expressive in the manga.

Already, this far into the manga, I've seen about two scenes truncated to just a splash image in the anime and maybe a line of dialog to reference it. I'm doing a rewatch-while-reading that's allowed me to see the first four episodes are mostly depicting the exact same scenes as the manga has up until Ch.12 (plus Ch.17 thrown in because it kind of stands alone), and the events of the past couple chapters since Ch.12 have mostly been covered by Episode 5. But I assume the number of 'skipped' or 'truncated' scenes or conversations are going to start increasing in the latter half of the season as the manga continues to adapt the LN scenes.

Anime was still not terrible, as obviously I'd not be reading this if it wasn't for the fact the anime made me like these two goobers already, but the manga adaptation's made me love them even more with how much more expressive they've been. It's a shame, really, that an animated adaptation is less 'animated' than an adaptation involving still images on pages.
