There is a side story chapter where he and itsuki have a conversation and its revealed he had a minor/crush admiration on mahiru for hoe similair they are but after seeing her and amane he realized they arent as alike and so he dropped it and just wishes hapiness for her and amane

Yeah, lol. I read it and it really is just him folding immediately and admitting he could never love Mahiru as much as her and Amane love eachother. Dude had me thinking there was some sort of minor love rival in the story
