As much as this is probably intended to be framed as a stupid teenager being properly immature for their age and doing stupidly cruel things because of it, I don't think the outcome is worth stomaching ngl. Like, the gall he has to blame everyone in being put in this situation of feeling guilty and having to run to check on her instead of being mad at his own actions speaks a lot to his character. It's just spineless, and it's hard to see how the manga turns it around in a satisfying way unless they make a character arc about it... But given the tone and pacing of the manga it's just hard to see it happening. I don't trust that I'm going to like the next chapter.

Oof, these comments....

This scene is set up to demonstrate that MC is a considerate person, crucially, even toward someone with whom he doesn't want to be involved. What's more, he's willing to help others, even strangers, which is how he became acquainted with her in the first place.

Also, can we please leave out the "this is not how I would react in my imagination, so this guy is lame" ad hominem attacks from the discussion. Calling MC "dense" suggests that we (the readers) can understand his feelings better than he does, which is as indefensible as MC questioning the authenticity of someone else's "love at first sight." And finally, let's not pretend that MC can reason with a girl who's determined to violate his boundaries and views "friendship" as simply a means to get closer to him romantically.

That said, MC's best (least worst?) option here was to avoid the problem (i.e., her) and hope that she loses interest in him; that's exactly what he tries to do. However, he's evidently doomed to fail due to the good nature of his person (helpful, considerate, etc.) and the fact that she's already devoted herself to said person.

P1: either "she's telling me to sniff" or "it's her telling me to sniff", no?
I am so sorry for not catching some typos, it was really late my time during the translation and typesetting, the first page has been reuploaded and thank you for reading.

So when he's sniffing her why is he comparing it to his sisters as if its normal to know the smell of his sisters as such
