It's not permanent, he can just take it off before bed, no big deal.

Wait, taking it off? Does that mean his ears will be having holes? I thought it was permanent! Will the holes heal/closed if he stopped using piercings?

Usually people sleep with their piercings on during the first week or so after they put them on, just so that the holes don't close, but after that it may take from a week to a few months for them to fully close, so they can take them off at night to sleep more comfortably.

I never knew! I thought of it like being stabbed by knife or syringe, which heals over time quickly!
...
So, the first week of being pierced is kind of hellish for the dude in manga... I mean, with all of that type of piercings, especially that inner stick... I cannot imagine myself feeling that. I respect their dedication for that.
