Yeah I can see why Azels a little bitter about it. The eldest brother being unwed means he's SOL in an extra direction or two.... I assume, anyways? I feel like I recall the custom usually being that elder siblings have to marry before younger usually.

Also damn, their old man was a couple of types of piece of fucking work....

Kinda weird that the explanation of why they can't get married was a bunch of cultural and economic reasons that would apply to anyone in their position as opposed to the previous events of the plot that should make it so no one wants to marry into their family specifically.

At this point they could have more than enough horses and it would still be tricky because people don't want in-laws who do violent take-backsies.

Our boy knows his wife is gold. Good thing he is being honest with himself and not letting embarassment stop him from being sincere with those he loves. He is indeed becoming more mature!

And yeah, scarcity economical conditions (generally pre-industrial) do pose this problem that each person is a pair of hands to work, produce food or craft, but also a mouth to feed. Also... people giving their daughters away to a family they won't see much better feel like they will be taken good care of for the rest of their lives.
