He's not the type. He isn't chasing status or rank. If he were, there were many others that are of a higher position that he could have allied himself with.

This mangaka does a good job with the adaptation. Cuts out all the boring stuff and makes the exciting parts stand out more. I always wonder what the creative split between the original author and the mangaka is on these works, like how much discretion the artist gets for choosing which parts of the story to cut out, for example.
