From what I heard, real-world "truth serums" are like that too. They do make people talk, but they end up too busy talking to check if they're telling truth or lie. Which is why they aren't used often. Might as well just get the other person drunk.

Meanwhile in the real world there are like ten thousand poisons and we have to customize a cure for every single one...

How irresponsible of the father to imply/foster the mindset that her potions are the cause or in any way responsible for the criminal to be punished. If a mage buys a mana potion and uses the replenished mana to murder people, If a torturer buys a health potion to prolong their victims suffering, is the potion creator responsible? Of course not. If this truth potion makes an assassin confess their crimes then is the potion creator responsible for the punishment that the criminal would receive? OF COURSE NOT!
