Chemically you can dissolve both metals and gems in acids and solvents. So alchemical magic being able to skip the in-between processes and just blend the two objects together doesn't really feel that strange to me.

It's just that this is not the direction I was expecting from a gemstone wanting to be an accessory. I was expecting a piece of jewellery with a prominent gemstone.
