Ya, but this is a fictional VRMMRPG. These fictional MMOs often have a lot of things that real MMOs don't like unique items or events. Or content that "no one but MC-kun was able to uncover". A I can go with a more physically involved (movement, accuracy) battle system.

The part about some raid pug member FKing things up is accurate.

basically these are the guys that buy grid's arrows and end up looking for him and when they find him they buy stuff from him and that's how the story becomes interesting. These are some of the best players in the entire game and rich af.
