@BestBoy She's her own sort of a sadist. She enjoys how Climb practically worships her, in stark contrast to her true nature, in blissful ignorance. Yet he is always holding himself back, which I'm sure she also enjoys since it's painful to hold yourself back day after day, week after week when your loved one is right in front of you. It's a game for her, and Climb is her beloved toy. In this case she's hoping he will get killed, and then when she's nursing him back to health, he will fall for her all the more.
I wouldn't say it's her motive behind the defense or the rescue mission. It's just her motive for sending Climb specifically. Her strategy didn't seem so bad, I'd say, taking the circumstances into account. The kingdom is a stupid place anyway, with the deep division between the royals and the nobles, making the overall power level of the whole country drop by dozens of percents. So, she just had to deal with the realities.
