No seriously I re-read this and couldn't entirely figure it out. Going by his unique pistol, and Crain probably also loving Anna. and their shared village... I have to assume Crain is his brother in law? The son of the gunsmiths or whatever that adopted Zipher. Maybe he's his cousin or something.
