Ah, so Thief-chan was (potentially) part of the reason why he has no motivation to become a Hero.
His dad just died and he inherited the role of Hero. He was still processing all that. He needed reassurance, so she gave him some but all it did was push him to the wrong direction. Maybe that's why she's kept a distance from him because inside, she felt like she's guilty for all of this. Like maybe, had she said the right words, then he would've gained levels by now and be a real Hero.
