@cgr probably because it's going to be continued by Mikoto who's already met the monkey (Sari's full name is Sarutorine) or maybe Mikoto's real name is gonna have pheasant in it idk

sari doesn't make sense because she is a peach boy , no one thinks of her as a monkey, and as far as we know, she never met momotaro (the MC of the folktale).

the pheasant name also doesn't make sense.

literally the entire story of momotaro is the same (with the detail that he privately doesn't like killing) so it's strange that the monkey/pheasant isn't there.
