Is there a Chinese template or something where bad guys try to kill MC thinking they're superior, fail utterly, and then are not only shocked MC stands up to them, but states MC courting death or going to die for defending himself when had already announced intentions to kill him from beginning? Like MC is going to be shocked or surprised about hearing their intentions to kill him for the fifth or sixth time. In any case, like many before them those brothers' hubris is going to lead to their downfall. Especially basing all of MC's value on his low rank spirit rather than time spent together and his other abilities. MC should kill them since they'll just keep trying to murder him and get others to help them if let them live. As for trouble with clan it'll be coming to him whether he kills them or lets them live to complain he didn't know his place and attacked them for no reason. Clan likely won't care for truth just decide he's in the wrong for having a low ranked battle spirit while disregarding fact he was able to cultivate that much and won a 1 vs 2 match against opponents with higher ranked spirits.
@Drinkfist MC killing younger brother might be older brother's misconception as could have fallen from shock of martial spirit sword being broken. Agree world messed up with bullying up to and including death intentionally. Hence because of the high mortality rates due to various things, such as the high grade monsters like the Ape and Tiger MC fought, prominent figures have multiple wives and concubines to increase chances of passing their strong abilities to next generation. Although if does kill brothers it won't be due to whim but necessity. Those two were obsequious when MC was prominent, but turned on him quickly, bullied and tried to steal his cultivation pills for their own gain. MC held back with younger brother in the first fight and yet rather than reflecting or learning his lesson the younger brother is trying to kill MC now. If he lets them live they're just going to continue trying to kill or humiliate him just to protect their hubris thinking they're better than him because their Martial Spirits are higher ranked. Even if they suddenly admitted they were wrong and begged for mercy they'd still turn around and try to stab him in the back before five minutes had passed while mocking him internally about what a naive fool MC is for believing them and will have their revenge asap.

Lol the MC in these wuxia always kill without a care in the world. I'm not against characters killing and I guess it's just the world they live in but it always throws me off a little.
