This motivation reminds me of Ragne from Dungeon Dive. She wanted to become number one (ichiban), but when she reached it like became the number one knight, she would give herself a new meaning of number one. Like the number one Saint or whatever. Until, at one point, she became the strongest in the world, literally. Then she went insane and finally wanted to destroy the world, because if she were the only one left, that means no one can deny that she is truly number one. She was only 15 years old, seriously.
When she was a child, her mother left and promised to be back once she became number one (there are lots going on, but basically her mother always used her as an assassin, then sold her). The saddest part was that she knew her mother was shady, but she couldn't accept that her mother only used her and abandoned her. She knew that there was nothing called number one, but that was her only way to cope, also she was so talented that becoming number one was too easy for her. So she was basically a delusional teenage girl who could destroy the world.
"For Ragne, a dream is not something she wants to accomplish, but an unreachable goal that allows her to forget about painful things while she's working toward it." If she were less talented, maybe she would forget about her mom and move on.
She is not the main villain, but she is my favourite because she is fricking cute.
