So two things.

It’s the abruptness of it all that’s so strange (even though it’s 100% genuine) and the worse bit is that kept him out of the loop.

And Fido himself is not used to positive attention (aggressive positive attention at that)

So this triggers his fight or flight response and he doesn’t want to hurt them so runing is the only option.
