@DaDragoon3 Yes this was started early on in XY's production, but this series is still going on to this day. Don't worry, Akiko goes to great links to make this series fit the cannon of the story as closely as possible so with things like Ash Greninja and Serena will get some course correction.
For now, this Greninja was Akiko's vision of what Ash's little Froakie would eventually become.
