Here's a thought: Maybe if she gets reincarnated, she'll end up losing her memories and therefore lose her love for Gosu-san?

From what I understand, the "protecting" seems to be referring to Gozu thinking that Kisshou is blackmailing Anko (page 14–15). So he thought he was protecting Anko by offering his own Next Life Points to Kisshou to drop whatever assumed blackmail/leverage Kisshou was holding over Anko.

This is all happening because Gozu had to immediately return to the spirit realm after his temporary body was destroyed last chapter, so he didn't know what happened between that moment and when Anko later returned to the spirit realm, surprisingly with her own temporary body destroyed too.

Gozu is probably assuming that Anko got into a fight with the lazy brat, good spirit Mikuzushi, but Kisshou intervened and sent Mikuzushi to torture hell, in order to blackmail Anko.
