Okay so this is one of two things.

1. These chapters are filler because the author wants to keep the "story" going but cant come up with new scenarios.

2. This girl will factor into the story or finale in some way.

or the secret third thing: they were influenced by an editor to introduce a love rival due to it being a common staple of the genre, for the purposes of reaching a wider audience after a dip in sales in order to continue publication. ultimately nothing more than speculation, though
