I’m always amazed at the non-contemporary western culture that occasionally pops up in manga. I suppose I shouldn’t be. It’s not like we lack the opportunity for exposure to older Japanese culture here. The early 20th century is tough though, Soseki is the only author that comes to my (admittedly limited in this area) mind. I’m not sure how well known he is in the west though, outside of people with interest in Japan or world literature.
