What I take from this chapter is that she can create an area of overlap between the present and the future much larger than normal people, and hunters seem to have used it in the past (the middle school incident) and to be constantly trying to get her to do it again.

Yes, that's a good theory. But it makes me wonder why it didn't look like that last time with the long-necked one she killed. Probably related to mental/emotional state 🤔.
