Reading through this again, I can definitely see it's flaws.

It progressed too quickly, they learned about the connection between worlds too fast.
They should of had a couple more trips back and forth, slowly learning something new everytime.

They also got strong too quickly.
The power ups were fine, but they happened too fast so we didn't really get to appreciate the new moves enough before Ageha got more.
Dragon bois psi, I imagine his abilities were gonna end up being to fully realize a psi dragon or something.
Glasses girls abilities could have evolved more into creative mental attacks.
Oboro.... interesting but not explored enough
Kirisaki was cool, tho we only saw him really fight once.

Dragon boi and Oboro were wasted, first trip into Psyren after training and they both get biffed and disappear from the story till the end.

This is a good series, interesting plot, cool powers, good characters, but it just wasnt explored enough.
The pacing was too fast, author shouldve slowed it down to really explore the world and its characters more.
The author gave us enough to understand, but not enough to really get invested in.

I suppose thats why it got cancelled.

Total shame, this could have been a masterpiece.

You know, considering the quality of the modern stuff... they probably regret cancelling this one. Way too many nonsensical stories getting published nowadays.

Anyone gonna talk about how the start of this manga is just a lighter version of Gantz. Like even down to the starting protags.

I really genuinely love this manga, and re-read it every few years.

I noticed this time some strong similarities to Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer. Coincidence or not, either way doesn’t diminish my thoughts on the quality of this series but I wanted to list them out as I found it kinda cool.

Both series have…

  • Psychic brother and sister tested on by shady government scientists, who are at war with each other relating to the future of humanity, where the brother was turned evil, and the sister is using a “game” to empower people to fight back against him and save the future.
  • Both have a main character protagonist with circular powers, that can be dangerous to those around him.
  • Both have a main love interest, who is a little bit crazy and ostracized the beginning of the series.
  • Both deal with scenes of time travel and reincarnation.
  • The main antagonist of Lucifer has a shockingly similar final form to the main protagonist of this series.
I mostly just find the similarities interesting, partly because you don’t see very many psychic themed manga stories out there. You’ll find plenty of fantasy, or magic, even sci-fi, but pure psychic-powers don’t come up too much. And it’s interesting that two of my favorite series seem to follow a lot of the same tropes and characters, more so than what seems like it could be coincidence.

Either way, looove this series. Now to put it down and re-read it in another few years! Maybe I’ll go re-read Kekkaishi again next…

Finished reading it, and yeah, the flaws are fairly evident. But this was still quite nice to read and still way better of an ending than many other manga that didn't get cancelled.
