Everyone.
I think I cracked the story of Kouishou Radio.
I apologize in advance for how rambling this will be. This is how I reason things out: when I start making connections, I write a giant jumble of random thoughts and see how they link together as I write. I started this with a different thought entirely, relating to the chapter titles, but then I realized how everything is tied together. So buckle up and read on.
The chapters are all numbered with a frequency which relates to its content, the people involved, and the timing. For example, three of the chapters in the latest uploaded batch, Chapters 37, 41 and 46, are all 48.xx. They focus on the same theme, but a different character each time. We see an old man hear something, then a young man has a *thing* crawl in his mouth, and then the old man dies and is seen with the same thing having crawled into his mouth.
But the most obviously connected are Chapters 35, 39, and 42, frequency 29.00, which are all the same scene but with a different person's perspective. 35 sees nothing, 39 hears someone say "I FOUND YOU", and the third guy sees a monster. The scene happens in the same time, same group, so the frequency is the same.
But here's where it gets interesting: the monster that appears in 42 ALSO appears in Chapter 23, frequency 28.26. I think it ALSO appears in Chapter 36, 26.92.
Chapter 48, 65.03, is an extended version of Chapter 2—64.98. I went through it, and the characters in the flashback first appeared in Chapter 8, 18.41. The scene is continued in Chapter 17 (18.50), which has a flashback to Chapter 10 (25.12). On that note, I *think* the boy in Chapter 42 was one of the bullies in the past, but not 100% sure.
Now another fun connection: the statue in Chapter 43. A statue which plays a prominent role in MULTIPLE frequencies. Starting with the boys in Chapter 9 (33.89)—who based on their clothing are from a previous era—finding a box which is covered in talismans.
A box which we learn in Chapter 15 contains the hair of the dead, as part of a ritual to appease the God of Hair. A God who, based on Chapter 26 and 31, will spare not even crows who dare disturb the box. And upon opening it, a spirit escapes, and they go to a shrine to ask a priest to get an exorcism in Chapter 34—the *same* priest from Chapter 43, using the methods shown in Chapter 13 (24.72).
But the most prominent of all?
The thing that made it all click?
Look at Chapter 16, 68.59. Page 3 has a panel that I think a LOT of us spent several minutes staring at in Chapter 35—the first of the 29.00 frequency. *It's the same street.* And at the end of 16, three boys are shown looking at a statue.
Guys.
All of the stories take place in a single city, across different points in time.
Everything ties back to the God of Hair.
The God of Hair is angry at *something*, whether it be desecrating its grounds, or something else. It's slowly preparing to return, planning to exact a price for their ignorance. And according to Chapter 44, a giant tragedy is about to befall the entire city.
Just. Dang.
Some other connections I've found:
[ul][*]Chapters 1, 3, 5, 7, 28
[*] Chapter 18, 19, 20, 30, and 12 (just... read them, you'll see what I mean)
[*] Chapter 21, 33, and 49, as far as I can tell, have the same protagonist.[/ul]
I'll stop there, I'm getting too rambly even for my own tastes. But look through it again, guys. There's connections all over the place.
