I wonder whether the story is supposed to show us how the MC is turning into the same kind of scum he hated, or if it's just a wish-fulfillment fantasy for the reader with a pinch of a revenge power trip.

Eh I really don't get this dude piling on the mom. At the end she got dealt a crappy hand with two useless men in the house so she made do with the rapey old f*ck and got the better out of it.
He keeps pushing her and is gonna regret it

It's... Yeah. It's pretty clear he's still lashing out and has learned a lot of the wrong lessons due to the environment he's been put it. I like this about the story because it feels painfully realistic.
