Oooh, as one who writes this is an interesting question; Usually I differ to the one I'm working on at the moment; the story I'm working on right now is the strangest one by far, and while I love it, It's not what I'd consider Magnum Opus.
The one I would is my largest, and one I'm still working on; arguably I've come to the conclusion that it's a bit much for one book, so splitting it apart is a good idea. It follows three protagonists on their way to stop a bunch of liches from reviving this big evil; they meet a lot of people along the way, and while the first three sections were the usual some might expect, I'm quite proud of the fourth section I finished recently; The problem with the first three sections is that everyone was growing confident, so I made them lose. The fourth section is about as long as the previous three, and forces our protagonists and their allies to change, to realize their flaws and do something about it, or it's over. While the previous section concluded in battles, this one, divvied up in three perspectives really only had one; The idea is that a battle won't solve this problem anymore.
The story is not perfect, not at all, but I still consider it my greatest feat; it takes a lot out of me especially since the farther along it goes, the deeper the dilemmas get. For example, in the first three, one side character goes from a boyish prince, to a stronger prince, in this fourth section and to the sixth, he goes from a broken prince, to coming to terms with death.
Do I believe it'll be perfect, no, do I believe it'll be my greatest writing feat someday: most definitely. Will I ever finish it... I don't know
