I can relate to you because I have also struggled with severe insomnia. It's so frustrating to be tired yet unable to fall asleep. Imagine being sleep deprived for days and yet dredging when bedtime finally arrives. The good news is that I have slept pretty well for the past couple of years. I thought my condition was incurable, but it has improved and I'm not taking sleeping pills.I guess i fear being a failure in life. Which i think i already am. Face your fears & all, but things could be worse.
Other than that, due to my bouts of exhaustion and insomnia i have a fear of fatal insomnia. It destroys the part of your brain responsible for sleep, making you unable to do so. Eventually you stop being able to sleep at all and will deteriorate till you eventually die. There is no cure, there is no hope, in all cases the person will eventually die.
Unfortunately, I can't pinpoint exactly what happened to improve my sleep. I don't have any unexpected advice beyond the basics. Just don't give up! I thought it would be like this forever, but things worked out for me!
