Always try to understand them first. Maybe they will trust you immediately and go "Alright cool you gotta do all the paperwork, diplomacy and military stuff for us in exchange for free lifetime supply of rice" sounds like fair deal to me. Or maybe they not into that. In that case I export capitalism and memes if they open.
I rely on luck and swag because I'm very cool.
If they don't think I'm cool then I leave.

Depending on how civilized they are, I'd start up "AI" data centers like our current ones to use up as many of the natural resources as possible, then get the young generation to rely on the "AI" models so much that they have a hard time doing day-to-day tasks without it. Next, turn off the "AI". No more civilized society.
