So far the only thing we knew about the mom that she was smiling gleefully when forbidding things from Akine. That's not how you behave if you are doing it due to being super strict (with education, hobbies, religious reasons, whatever) or something else ordinary. It gave a pretty trollish/sadistic image of the mom. If I wanted to see it in a good light, it might be that the parents are trying to trick Akine into greater independence/initiative by having her grow frustrated to the point of questioning the limitations on her own and bringing it up with the parents. I guess such parents might exist, but since Akine is already in high school, it seems to me such the approach would have already been labeled a failure.
