You know what? I don't normally point out plot holes, but couldn't Lupa just use I don't know, makeup to hide the beauty mark? Rather than glasses that fail her?

Either works. I think she just prefers glasses (at least, that would be my explanation). Also, glasses obscure the face better than makeup anyway. She doen't use them just to hide her birthmark, but it is a benifit.
