this manga did NOT do well as an advertisement for the LN, it was messy, action was all over the place (and frankly uninteresting), and it hardly gave even a taste of the revenge which is the whole driving interest for most readers with these kindsa stories.

Yeah, if this was meant to be an advertisement for the novel it actually does quite the terrible job at it. There's so little characterization that it doesn't really endear you to any particular character so it's less likely you would go oh gotta continue so and so's story. The action was not particularly good and there's not much intrigue overall. Most of the characters are frustratingly stupid. It's kind of surprising how little it accomplished even for being only 3 volumes.

Also the king is actually just a dipshit. "If it wasn't it for his curse I would execute that guy." He's stronger than pretty much anyone in your kingdom by a considerable margin. The only way you could execute him is if he genre shifts to a moronic summoned hero type that lets themselves be killed for no reason.

Built up pretty well and quite decently made for an 18-chapter teaser for the source material. You could really feel how everything is just surface level as they kept all development at a 'prologue' level.

This doesn't really feel like an axe, moreso a planned exit to get people to read the light novel

There wasn't a rushed conclusion, just an end of an arc and setting of a new status quo. And while I won't read the light novel I find this is a satisfying enough conclusion for a story I wasn't invested in.
