I can understand the protagonist being in fear and yeah, so far he's weak, but I was hoping for some more backbone from the MC....

@Epicredeemer I get that, but usually this part in mangas is when the character show he is "badass". Maybe i'm just spoiled from other shounen mangas.

@Jaylcs it's one thing to see something through a screen, but it's an entirely different thing to witness events up close and personal

I admit I also find the protagonist's attitude refreshing realistic and infuriatingly pathetic at the same time. But given all the focus his hesitation gets, I'm v convinced it's part of his character arc.

Just don't drag it for too long. When basically the rest of the cast, even those who awakened as gods very recently, is kicking ass despite being very aware of the risks, it's not as fun when a scared hero refusing the call (trope!) hogs the spotlight.

the MC is probably has one of the weakest personality among the manga i've read..... but also probably the most humanely normal among all of them.... i mean a normal people would freak out in that situation

@Leica Oh, no, I'm very aware of the justification. But while it's justified, it still makes him less interesting right now than his awakened companions. After all, his not having the memories is ultimately the author's choice.

Take Kamika, for example. She started in the very same situation, but now she's struggling with her valkyrja memories while also taking part in the fight of Ragnarok, and her heart is divided between nostalgia for a divine family and friends she had forgotten, and her bonds with her Japanese life and current friends. Which becomes a sadistic choice between fighting and dying with the former group, or running away with the latter. That is interesting. More interesting than Raise's hesitation, at least.
