I like watching movies and I also seen a lot of threads rating things sent in from people but not really any discussion for movies. So hopefully this can not help be more engaged in forums but also get new movies that I could watch.

Additional details isn't necessary but I would like your reason as to why you enjoy this movie

I will try to give my own thoughts on the movie after I finish watching

Normally you'd use a draft as example, otherwise a rating is merely a number. Example: A Serbian Film, 7/10 (watch with friends).

Yeah, tbh i would be swamped with my manga reviews if people actually gave 1 manga per day like i've allowed. But they've been gracious enough not to. Would be hilarious if we all bombarded @AVGMR daily so that if they wanted to keep up they'd have to watch 9h of movies and rate them aswell every day.

Review:
Sometimes all it takes is one person to change your life forever, someone that becomes special to you even if you don't recognize it at first. Choices that seem insignificant can end up leading to the creation of some of the most fondest memories of your life. Which also makes it just as equally impactful as to how sudden it can all be taken away in a flash, as you wallow in self-guilt about how you should've done better, how you should've spent more time with them. I really liked how Sakura's death was built up, with the initial reveal of her death and the text message from Haruki making a good mystery of what happened before Sakura's death. And then, when the movie lets Haruki feel comfortable and moving on into a more positive direction in his life, you see the same text message in the beginning of the movie before the sudden realization from Haruki that Sakura is dead through the news. That entire buildup was executed super well. The reveal of Sakura dying from a stabbing instead of her pancreas disease didn't really surprise me, but that not really what the movie was trying to achieve. It fully understands the relation between Sakura and Haruki and allows time for their relationship to be build up that feels real in the end, which was wrapped up beautifully in the last 30 minutes of the movie. That said, the movie wasn't flawless. The beginning didn't really fully captivate me tbh. I feel like there could've been even more time showing the growth in their relationship as time went on instead of taking a pretty big time jump after Haruki was beaten up by Sakura's ex boyfriend. I also feel like the conflict with what Haruki did in Sakura's house shouldn't have been immedietly resolved after like 5 minutes, and instead build up to an eventual confrontation that allows Haruki realize how important Sakura truly is. Haruki's despair after Sakura's death felt a little too short and didn't left as much of an impact as I felt like it could've. Overall, I really enjoyed this movie. An emotional movie with good animation and powerful ending.

Review:
I’ve always known Paprika and thought of watching but have never gotten to it until now. While the movie does have incredible animation and mindbreaking scenes, I can’t really say I enjoyed the plot of the movie. The concept seems like it would be really good, technology that can go into dreams are used by terrorists and show the dangers of this technology, but I feel like the movie sort of loses itself while it progresses. It sets up branches in the story with the cop's trauma, the split personalities between Dr. Chiba and paprika, and the main conflict of the disruption between dream and reality which all doesn't really develop enough for me to have any investment towards. The conflict could've felt more threatening if we saw more examples of people being manipulated by dreams but it main just effects the research team and then suddenly the world becomes threatened. There can be so many cool ideas that could've conveyed how threatening this technology can be as a weapon but we really don't see that, other than it being simply stated. Dr. Chiba and Paprika also doesn't really get explained why she specifically has two different entities but that's mostly just a nitpick and something I could ignore. The most developed plot was the cop but it still felt underbaked as he is simply able to conquer his trauma without much development into how he was able to get over it. While the dream sequences were amazing, it all really doesn't have any impact into the real world as it didn't carry any of the momentum of the danger and importance of the dream technology. Overall, It was a nice visual watch but I didn't really care for the story.

Late Night with the Devil

I'm not usually into horror movies, but I thought this one was surprisingly good. The found footage and documentary filmmaking styles make it pretty interesting

Review:
Fuck that toothpaste commercial was so good. The movie was also pretty nice. This movie understands how connections with humans can be so heartwarming and important for us as Phillip goes through the process of finding people that become important to him. The pacing in the first half of the movie was amazing and took its time to make his relationships fully fleshed out. However, I feel like the movie was try a little to hard to make a powerful and emotional ending when it didn't fully flesh out the development of the entire crew of the apology service. You can see through moments of the movie where it tried to get you invested in characters other than Phillip, like Aiko's struggles in her job and her talk with Phillip at the bar, or the reveal of Shinji hiring a different service business to pretend to have a loving family. These scenes could have been investing, if they just spent more time creating these scenes and developing them so that I could feel invested in these people's own lives, not just Phillip. When the movie creates a conflict near the end of the movie for Phillip, it just somehow gets resolved immediately as soon as the rental family crew start caring. I thought this was a very weird choice and kind of hurt the pacing of the movie a lot for me. Overall, a heartwarming movie that lost its footing a little at the end but still good.

i felt that the scenes with Aiko and Shinji were adequate, especially Shinji's. his notion that relationships could be convenient transactions was tested by Aiko and Phillip's disagreement and eventually fell apart, as he knew he could no longer pretend that the closest kinds of relationships were genuine.

i didn't find the conflicts Phillip dealt with to be rushed, but i do think that the movie could have done more to portray how and why the circumstances of rental service customers are created rather than just a blanket 'there are social stigmas' explanation. Phillip and Kikuo's dynamic was especially good though, and i thought the soundtrack was utilized well while not having an offensive level of 'hold up sign that says 'LAUGH/CRY NOW'' in it.

overall i'd say 7/10 is objectively fair though, and i'll plan to watch that recommendation, thanks

Review:
Mistakes often feel unforgivable when it comes from yourself. You can try to change as much you want but it takes tremendous effort to stop a form of self hatred deep inside you. This movie is a beautiful story of overcoming the struggle of self-forgiveness and asking if you can change from your past through its amazing animation cinematography and soundtrack. Ishida is a character I feel like anyone can relate to with how we all felt a sense of hopelessness of unable to forgive yourself at some point in our lives. Nishimiya is a perfect reflection of Ishida where you can end up also wallow in self hatred by fully believing that everything is her fault from the bullying in the beginning to now Ishida's own guilt. And in the end, when Ishida was finally able to forgive himself and look beyond the past, all he could do was stand still and cry seeing how beautiful the life he was blinded to truly was. Just amazing. The only flaws I can really nitpick is that I wanted shoya's fall into self hatred to have a bigger buildup since it felt a bit sudden, but it can also be seen as a message about how quickly you can fall into despair and hopelessness even when you're surrounded by people who are closest to you. Also I thought it was weird that Nishimiya loves Ishida but it doesn't develop to anything and felt unnecessary. Other than these minor flaws, this was a great movie and was very emotionally impactful

Already watched this movie before and feel like my opinions on it haven't changed at alll so I'll review this quickly
While this movie has its moments that is able to convey its message well, I just feel like the rest of the movie doesn't convey its message well at all. The movie starts fine but then you continue to watch and see the movie slowly become a slog where the movie just repeatedly says "SOCIETY BAD" without going fully deeper into this idea and developing more through Arthur's transition into the Joker. Again, there is still amazing scenes in the movie that are able to tell its message without slamming it in your face like the subway scene or Arthur on the Murray show. But when the rest of the movie just doesn't stay on the same level of consistency, it becomes very annoying. Maybe I'll rewatch it one day and change my opinion, but I'm pretty firm on my opinions of this movie

I liked it because MC feels like a human in a world of npcs and it feels relatable how lonely mc's life and apartmant felt.

Also it reminded me of how i used to try to socialmaxx to try to fit in and get friends in high school and college before realizing most people around me were empty and worshipped power and authority.
They also liked feeling good and simply subconsciously chased after people who were good at using conversational skills to make listener feel good and if i wanted to get friends or feel desired in any way or form all i had to do was just be someone in %1 of something people desired while getting avereage talking skills. Or be %0.1 and not have to improve my talking skills.
This %1 can be money, looks, talking, or situationally, something someone wanted to be.
I also realized Ill never be not alone, Im a human just like everyone else behaving same way everyone else does and I have no right to impose my world view of an ideal person neither onto world or onto myself and all behaviours I observed are things that an individual human needed to survive and pass their genes for millions of years in a pack based societies before modern society existed and If i wanted to feel desired and be important in this world designed for control, I had let go of everything that made me myself, take many risks and maybe end up at %1 as a depressed person with several addictions constantly aware of everything around me and work myself to an early grave like everyone else does, while the people that sold the concept of "fulfillment" lived on islands named after themselves, and sent emails to each other talking about how they always sold concepts and people worked themselves to an early grave trying to realize said concepts

Guy Ritchie's The Covenant (2023)

joey's above recommendation reminded me of this movie as they both star Jake Gyllenhaal. i'm not drawn towards war thrillers or anything, but i saw this in theaters and thought it was a pretty solid movie. it handles sacrifice and putting yourself in danger for others in a grounded and interesting way, and i've also always liked Jake Gyllenhaal as an actor (and NO i haven't seen Brokeback Mountain)
