When rating chapters, it would be nice to have some more descriptive or emphasized names for them, when rating a manga, I often struggle to give it a 9 or a 7, maybe because (some of, not these specific ratings) the ratings are so similar, but I like to think that i'm getting confused because "great" is right behind "masterpiece", the english language is complicated, and some words just don't have as much oomph as others, great and good can be used interchangeably in most sentences, so that is a major source of confusion usually.

Most of the rating descriptions are fine as is, so below i've listed the ratings, their names, and in parenthesis, what i would like to have the name changed to, if a rating has no parenthesis, it's fine as is.

(10) Masterpiece
(9) Great (Amazing)
(8) Very good
(7) Good
(6) Fine (Alright)
(5) Average
(4) Bad
(3) Very bad
(2) Horrible
(1) Appalling

Another reason why I have a hard ime rating things is because while in a chapters page, I don't have an easy reference point for a rating, (i.e. I don't know what manga would be considered a 9 versus a 10), so I would also like if maybe some popular manga (perhaps a manga has to have over 900,000 views to be able to be seen?) or manga that you have read at least one chapter of or have in your MDList that are very close to the rating you are giving to the manga would be shown and you need to confirm your rating?

I don't know, but If you have any ideas for how to improve the rating system, by all means comment it, or make your own thread, I suppose it might be seen more if you do that...

Nice thread.

The only ones I would personally advocate to change are 8 and 9. Maybe "Great" should be moved to 8, and "Amazing" could be 9.

You don't compare it to some reference point. You rate it how you like it.

Why do you think this happen?

@BzzBzz Some people have a hard time quantifying exactly how much they like a manga, especially with a number, and especially with as many numbers for ratings as MD has, so this would just be making it more accessible to people like that.
Also, it would probably reduce the number of "masterpiece" ratings given out, because then they would be able to compare it to something very close to "masterpiece" rating, and might find that the manga is not quite as worthy of the "masterpiece" rating.

@AbyssalMonkey Eh, I don't need any of this, or that specifically, I'm just throwing out ideas on how to make the site better, because v5 is coming out soontm, so they'll be able to implement things easier and maybe at all.

But who would decide what manga is "reference masterpiece" and/or other ratings? Just like image in my previous post shows masterpiece for one person is trash for someone else.

You should also account for reader's age. I personally would barely rate 5/10 for 90% of "masterpieces" that I read 10 years ago. And would mark "masterpiece" many manga that I wouldn't even touch with 5m stick 10 years ago.

So, what exactly should we mark for masterpiece? Masterpiece of 15yo person? Or masterpiece of 20yo person? Maybe masterpiece of 30 or even 40 yo person?

@BzzBzz as I understood it the "reference masterpiece" list would come from one's own account...? So, when I'd click the 10, MD would show other manga I rated 10 to ask me whether I really think they are all on the same level for me.
