Smal Alpha said it, Katsuya is connecting to the people around him. Until know he was projecting an aura of being super skilled but now he's starting to actively connect with people around him. Yumina not being part of that network yet may be due to her repeated contacts with Akira and since she's under the influence of both of them, they each interfere with each other which makes her uniquely objective.

Yeah, that's what I figured. What's in the lab that Alpha seeks? Why does he want what's in the lab for himself so bad? Fun to speculate. This is a great manga.

That guy Nergo (previously Cain, from the relic heist in the undercity) was talking to was Alpha's subject 498. He got to the objective then rejected to complete the mission on moral grounds. That is what was revealed here.

I am just looking forwards to Carol's introduction, the adventures with her go quite different in the Light Novels (and thus manga) than in the web novels.

More like mind control. I feel like it’s done that before—influencing the feeling and behaviors of the people around him. I think it happened during the snake operation where everybody started to listening to his commands.

He was introduced in ch19 and had a role in ch37. I guess the keycard was grabbed the first time we saw him, and then made contact with Nergo sometime between 37 and now since he was interrogating the partner.
