people regularly pull more bullshit stuff for more inane reasons. this level of corruption in a world built on corporate city-states? absolutely tame as fuck.
in addition, there are definitely forensic traces on his equipment if not digital ones that would tie into this mess, so even if they didn't use their bullshit reason to corruption the goods they could seize it on those grounds.

Maybe I just don't quite grasp the amount of money. But I don't understand why Akira chose to use part of the 100 million for the gears instead of asking the government for them in addition to the 100 million.

If he just want to contribute to Shizuka's shop, he can simply shop more.

Unless asking the government for gears mean they'll deduct it from the 100 mil.

Maybe they did find something or are in the process of find something. Could come into the story later, or Alpha has good encryption or deleted any trace while he was unconscious.

I think they paid him way too little for the rights to that fight. Beating an entire ass AC unit would make someone a legend, regardless of who did it.

But at the same time, any amount of money is worth it for him. Being credit for that puts a massive target on your back, and he's already got people after his head

I love how appreciative Kibayashi is of Akira not giving two thoughts about his reputation regarding his feats and how he just looks forwards in time.

The dream of Alpha and Kibayashi's warning about his usage of nanobot medicine seems like a reality check on Alpha's willingness to sacrifice Akira's health for her goals. Was she trying to push him to complete her request within a year or was she going to find him similar medical treatment herself?
I wonder if faux-Desty Nova could fill that role, or if Kibayashi can provide further deals regarding Akira's health in the future.

If the city spreads the rumor of the hunter being their agent, I wonder if that will affect how Kayn will react. He seems to lean towards that possibility already.
