What an oddly wholesome chapter.

The motivation to get better, not to win, but to reignite the spark of a savant that is depressed to see they've reached the top of the mountain and has nowhere left to climb.

I love how wholesome this chapter is and that Aoba isn't necessarily trying to win but simply spark that passion in both of them. I also am amused at how all The Heavenly Kings are like: "I'll teach you my technique!" but I hope they keep in mind that teaching him a thousand tricks is less useful than focusing on one.

I know I’m probably glazing right now, but I think this might be the best fight buildup of the entire series so far. From the focus placed on the training required to “win”, to the character interactions I wasn’t expecting to see, to the personal stakes placed in a fight I initially wasn’t very interested in,and the genuinely funny/wholesome moments presented here. at all makes for great Set up

Going to be insane when he pulls it off. If Kenshin had the fight the most likely subversion would be just him winning but the preceding chapters would set him up to look that way and if he didn't then it meant nothing for the story. With Aoba fighting Orima instead there's stakes to the plot and the interaction between Kenshin and Aoba is further developed, however a fluke victory from Aoba let alone an exciting/close fight seems too far above possibility to be believable or at least satisfying.

Thank you for the chapter!
I like how the author reframed Aoba's motivation for the fight, the stakes were feeling a little unclear up 'til now for me.
