Because Hachiya was out of position and couldn't recover his stance before Aoba kicked him with what Hachiya's corner woman mentally refers to as a prepared (I.e. drilled) sequence.

It isn't, Hachiya just made a mistake. He threw himself totally out of position with an overcommitted right hook.

Firstly this absolutely can happen (it's called taking a picture of your work) but Hachiya's position is entirely off, he's almost carried himself completely past Aoba if you look at the shot of when Aoba actually kicks him. People throwing themselves out of position and getting caught is absolutely something that can and does happen in MMA, Hachiya doesn't use a fundamentally sound striking system it's based on his attributes.
Yes I absolutely agree with what you're saying. I know these are amateur bums and that they're gonna tend to admire their work.
Listen man, even if Hachiya is out of position, think about the power he put into that lunge. How is Aoba meant to counter him that fast with a high kick after being knocked around by that punch?

Since we're going purely off hypotheticals, we both know Aoba could have simply feinted the right hand and thrown the right kick, this would have caught Hachiya as he was lunging and KO'd him clean. This should be doable since he knew ahead of time how Hachiya reacts to every straight right hand apparently.

Btw, you take pictures when you actually land, not when you miss or get blocked.

Aoba probably didn't get a lot of stank on that high kick. He got the leg up there and knocked Hachiya over because he was off balance but Hachiya didn't get hurt and was basically immediately on the offensive as Aoba closed in. Also if Aoba actually was practicing that sequence (which the cornerwoman says) him following through regardless as best he could makes more sense than him making something up on the spot.

RE: Feinting, That would have been better for Aoba to do, yes. I don't know how much he told Tokiwa about this though, Aoba has an eye for an opening* but has basically zero boxing; he probably doesn't even think about feinting much. Aoba is a very weird fighter at least at this point because he's gotten very good at certain things (kicking, guarding/head movement, scrambling/submissions) and is very bad at others (He has very few good takedowns, basically zero confidence in his hands whatsoever, his back control is actually kind of mediocre for how good he is at grappling).

But fighters do develop weird, Tokiwa is trying to push Aoba towards having a more realistically well-rounded game and Aoba basically went off and learned Hadzuru's karate kicks instead which don't really gel that well with the rest of his skillset. But learning to kick can be easier for some people than learning to box and some people in MMA have these weird disjointed skillsets that they make work via athleticism or fight IQ or blind luck anyway (until they get derailed).

*(this and his natural evasiveness are consistent via basically every single fight he's in going back to his introduction)

Yep yep all those things are true. Our guy is goofy and talented for sure. I still don't think the sequence we're talking is realistic nor has it ever happened in combat sports.
