For starters,it is that simple. This is not something that simple or "pure". Let's ignore for a moment the worst part, where he was saying demeaning stuff about his fiancé-equivalent (at all) directly after forcing said "child" to separate from her family and enter his harem (without even bothering to tell her that in person), we still have the part where he is feeling embarrassed about his mate-to-be to begin with instead of defending her. So it is bad on all possible levels! And then you combine both of those.
Secondly, again,he literally trying to get his friend off his back, which is a common trope, that is not in any way an indicator that he is a bad person, and chapter one itself shows full on his worry, let alone the events of chapter two.
Third,time to jog your memory.
After that,Efinia on her own accord decided that the Emperor would threaten her kingdom and thought that she had no choice."From today,we would like the princess to promptly enter the harem."
Despite that, she would still talk to him, meaning she wasn't forced into anything and clearly had plenty of space to work with, which we get confirmation of in chapter two.
Fourth,as established earlier, since it was a common trope with the common extension trope as well, anyone and everyone who actually knows entertainment media knows full well that is never an indicator that they were a bad person, the only thing it indicates,as per its' own usage the thousands of times it has been done,is that Party A wanted Party B of his back, said something to that effect, and had Party C never overheard and misunderstood it,things would be peachy, and since Party C did overhear it,we immediately see that Party A never fully meant the words he said,it was purely in use to get Party B of his case.Like I said, that part is not even relevant to what makes him irredeemable. That's just what happened after, and he would still be even if she hadn't overheard.Though yes, he should have immediately apologized, too.
In this specific instance, had the Emperor not broken his door(which, with it being so common, should've been made out of sturdy metal)from his previous outburst,Efinia wouldn't have overheard, she would've then walked in and had a discussion with the Emperor, which could've easily landed her an easier place in the harem...or,she could've even talked out an even better solution, she might've even figured out a way to not even join the harem and simply live on her own terms.
Fifth, since she did overhear, she came it like a storm, said everything with her face on full display, and promptly left without giving the Emperor any time at all to say anything to her,and as we know by now in chapter two,his lack of interpersonal skills caused him to falter, how the bloody Hell did you expect him to apologise then and there?,that is not how awkward people in awkward yet fast paced situations function.
Sixth, dude,to have 5000+ messages on Mangadex means, surely, you've read around enough to understand how tropes work, but clearly you did not understand how people function, which means a clear lack of normal human interactions,if not just a lack of searching up tropes. No idea why my post-count matters here. You do realize that the number of posts does not imply anything about someone? You are not a fifth the man I am just because you have a fifth of the post-count.
As for my knowledge of the tropes - you were literally replying to my initial comment where I did explicitly say that I know the author will try to redeem the guy. Because that's the trope.
And he is not a p12 where people still associate women with "cooties", he has no excuse for responding that way in regards to an official relationship where he (and his racial instincts) is the driving factor (and her side lacks any right to refuse or complain), and any negative remarks from him is directly harmful to her reputation and overall standing. He is a head of a state. He knows (or at least should know) to watch his words, even in "private" (and this was not truly in 'private' either, as that guy actually works for him and it was office-hours).
Seventh, yeah, the obvious,he's the main male character, but it was made clear in chapter one itself that he had no real meaning behind his words,as we have already established as a trope in chapter one,and by now in chapter two,has been confirmed to be a social dork.
If this was a chapter one discussion on its' own, half of what you said would only be met with speculation, but its' already chapter two, everything you're saying can now be met with factual, confirmed, objective aspects that have been shown to the readers up until this point.
The author didn't need to redeem him in front of us, for the author already showed full well that the Emperor was not a unfixable monster in chapter one itself, the real monsters are those in the harem itself, which now includes the biggest monster, the real cats' meow,Efinia, for she ain't short, she's compressed tungsten, ain't nothin' gonna keep her down.
Eighth,he has an excuse, literally the build up to it,because as established before in the earlier response, this is a common trope males have used REGARDLESS OF AGE,and by chapter two,is 100% confirmed to be socially awkward, even Goddamn Calvis admitted he shouldn't have provoked him.
Ninth, like before Efinia on her own accord decided that she had no choice,as we know by chapter two,she had the full capacity to make changes for the better had she not overheard their private conversation.
Tenth, yes,PRIVATE,they were two dudes, the Emperors' only friend, the only person who has the gall to poke his buttons and actually get away with it,in a room alone with no bloody other people, that is PRIVATE,if a sentient being can't say what they want in private, what is the point anymore?,private is the no holds bar, where he can actively brush off his only friends' teasing in a way he thought would work, possibly even the usual banter that the two go through on a daily basis.
Would he have said this in public?,no,he wouldn't,he knows that well enough, that is why his only friend is poking him about now behind closed(and recently broken[should've been sturdy])doors, the social awkwardness kicks in since this is among his only chances at letting his guard down to a friend that clearly is his spikey vent.
I have no bloody idea how any of this can be missed at this point of the story alone,he is not scum of the Earth that needed intense fixing, this is purely social awkwardness established in the first chapter and confirmed in the second chapter,it all is one big misunderstanding that both parties could've easily not get involved with HAD THAT STUPID DOOR BEEN MADE STURDY.
