Wait, what?? More spoiler please.
So while reiko's father is the other, more minor villain in the story, fuki is the main cause of reiko and mary's problems, fuki is partly behind the destruction of reiko's family and hates reiko, fuki has a insane infatuation with reiko's grandmother mary, and made alot of mary's good qualities into horrible ones, she was trying to cause a stigma between reiko and mary, oh and just for extra salt on the wound, the reason why mary lived so poorly is she was saving as much money as possible to give to reiko for her to live on when she died, which either fuki or reiko's father stole.
Fuki was the one that had alot to do with what the father did, but he was still a prick, i can't remember everything she did, i made a multi-paragraph spoiler on her and the father's actions, as well as how awesome reiko's stepmom is i think in chapter 6 or 7's comment section.

I have someone doing QC but I do the rest. Reikos chapters tend to take a while because of the massive amounts of dialogue in them
Just busy with work and college. (Working a full time job while going to school sucks, don't recommend it lol) Things finally calmed down when September hit, so I could start scanning again.
I think i can help in redrawing and typesetting. I can only do the basic though.

I must have missed that. Thank you for the spoiler.

They only deny his company wasn't involved in chemical and biological weapons, the military still needs medicine so perhaps this company was able to appease them. It's not like every company can work on the military.
Yeah, this is how I read it too. The grandfather did not approve of the war and did not support the war efforts, but was accused afterwards of doing military research.

Unless there are other parts with war crime denialism, I only think this is guilty of a vaguer Japanese nationalism (which is not nearly as bad.)

I can also help with QC/TS/CL to an extent.

Reiko can live the frugal lifestyle her grandfather adhered to, that made her a better person. But the only valuable skills her grandmother gave her was playing the piano, acting dignified and (indirectly) learning French. Those things are already helping to support her future, but tolerating other people's bad attitudes and not accepting charity are already causing harm to her. If this family did not choose to look after her, she would be without any means of network or support and continue to accept any unnecessary burdens, which is what she needs more than anything since living alone.
Except for the seeming war crimes denialism. It's an insputable fact that Japan was not just researching chemical and biological weapons, but did in fact use them against Chinese civilians.
I think the chapter wants to focus more on the damage the war caused on Japanese civilians, and how complicity or direct involvement of some lead to most of the population being blamed or harmed for it all.

You can argue that the atomic bombings of Hiroshima & Nagasaki and the Soviet invasion of their mainland territories finally lead to Japan surrendering. But those actions also made the firebombing of Tokyo feel like unnecessary suffering for the 1 million people left homeless by them, and that both sides could have done more to minimise the damage before and after the war.

From the web novel, she's fluent in more languages than French. I think English and possibly German?

I doesn't really know if civilian companies in japan are involved in chemical and biological weapons research but what i do know is that military is heavy involved in chemical and biological weapons research for obvious reason. Since the company they mention is civilian one's, there is a pretty good chance they telling the truth.
A civilian research industry in WWII Japan? You're joking.
Their premise is that US made up claims about chemical weapons to disparage your right and proper Japanese family who "naturally" were not involved in such things and were opposed to the war from the start.
Imagine if a German person said that the US's claims that their family's research institute was involved in producing chemical weapons was all a lie to steal Germany's technology.
You'd obviously think "wow this person really doesn't want to admit his ancestors were Nazis".

Claiming that the US false claims about bad things Japanese people did in WWII to steal technology may not be denying those thing happened wholesale but it is tending towards that. Especially because in reality the US suppressed allegations of those things to smooth things over, not exaggerated them.

You can do that without claiming that some of the allegations from the US of Japanese warcrimes are lies made up to steal Japan's technology and not the reality where the US did all that it could to minimize knowledge of Japan's war crimes to make sure the war ended smoothly and they didn't have to hang multiple princes for being involved in unit 731.

Because how could your character's right and proper Japanese family have been involved in such things, in fact they were opposed to the war from the very beginning. Because that was totally the attitude of Japan's upper classes at the start of the war. /s

There WERE in fact quite a few people who were agaist the war in Japan, mainly because they realized just based on economics that there was no way they would win and the country would be ruined. With that said, it doesn't say the Hongos were anti war, it just says they weren't reasearching biological and chemical weapons. That 100% could have been true and they were still supporting the war effort (because of course they were, they would have been crushed if they weren't supporting it in some way)

The person they said was antiwar was Reikos dad, and it was just talking about him working to end the ABCD Embargo, which makes sense because it was crushing Japans economy. Now if they said Reikos dad was protesting on the streets and somehow didn't get his assests seized and thrown into prison, that would be bull, but I don't think anything they wrote is too farfetched.

Again, the core issue is they are claiming that the US made up (at least some) Japanese war crimes (instead of the reality where the US covered up Japanese war crimes).

That's war crimes denialism. Even if you don't say they were all made up its still denialism to say the US was lying about Japanese war crimes, and actually checking it doesn't seem like this manga admits any occurred! All it goes is "your grandpa is great because he prevented the US from using false war crime allegations to steal Japan's research". And you're right, it doesn't even say he was opposed to the war on moral grounds. It just says that he planned knowing Japan would lose.
