Honestly I think there is a even deeper plan where they plan on finding a way to "invert" the "immortality" ritual. I think the ritual isn't perfect and requires sacrifices to extend one's life so there might be a FMA level of conspiracy to sacrifice a large number of people

Perhaps the anti-espionage spells Grandpa Theobald cast during the meeting were effective.
However, Riley is actually a homonoculus crafted by the Irantes magic tower the entire time as a spy using Sharon (Theobold's granddaughter's) body.

I honestly think the whole "immortality ritual" story is just an excuse to hide vampirism or something similar, considering liches are confirmed to exist already.

We have seen some(?) irantes tower immortal mages out and about in the sun so them being a vampire is questionable(?) but hey it might not be a complete enough vampire where theyd die to the sun or vampires in that world just get debuffed to hell and not die to the sun

what he means is that, they didn't use the illusion magic like before, when she told the old man about Becky's death. so there might be another plan, and the attack in 3 months is a diversion.
