I'm actually surprised with how understanding the dad was.


I think some people are just gifted like that. They might have great observations skills. Noble and royalty kids might have been exposed to some report of territory issues etc, and the gifted ones can pick up things easily. Their curious mind makes them want to learn more. And as they know more, they gain their wisdom.

This, and even in the real world I've seen some cases of the uh, "higher classes" having a bit of an edge there. Home tutoring, private schools, and just institutional knowledge in the family being imparted upon them can lead to them being way more "in the game" early on than your average kid. Basically they just grow up in a different world, and learn different things at different rates as a result.
