Ash was working as Tilly's maid before, hence why she had experience with how 'dumb' the old roland was and thus highly doubt he can really handle the church.

But after Roland proved to her he has the power (gun) to fight the church, Ash left and murdered the church's delegation on her way out (as a....'parting gift' so Roland has more time before the church realize what he's doing)

originally, the church was estalished by witches as a desperate measure to unite humanity against a dooms day event.
Because they were betrayed by cowardly humans in the 1st war, they can't trust them.
Because they ran out of witches capable of fighting in 2nd war, they lost.

So after discovering technology from an ancient race, they found hope, two of them.
One plan was to turn as many 'useless' human and 'non combat' witches into anti-magic immortal warriors as they can (the human provide the body, the witch provide their blood + soul)
Though there's another group who want to find THE ONE witch who can activate a machine that in theory will wipe out the demons within massive AoE, thus winning them the war.

The first group became the one to established the church.

However, later generations of pope betrayed the witches and hid the truth, leaving only the pope in charge to know of the truth to continue the deception.
So right now much of the church aren't even aware of the demons, though some in the higher ups do.

but one thing that makes my confused. in this chapter when they send the priest off to roland, the whole conversation seemed as if they allready knew what roland does but only want some foolprofe evidence?

They know he's been sending messengers to recruit witches

What they don't know is whether Roland is the one spearheading it willingly, or did he get enslave by the witch somehow.

Either way they plan to send the delegation to 'clean up' any witches influence.

uhhh,why is ashes so tall and buff?

and why not mention rats? theo used rats,a form of street gangs to spread information. contacting individual witches is almost impossible ,and makes no sense.

Also,Theo used to be hard boiled Patrol member well acquainted with backstreet rats before becoming a guard. He later plays the part of a spy-master in King's City,so he shouldn't have been so lame in appearance

Anyways, weird how it showed Leaf when it should be Scroll since she can sense other witches like Nightingale.

Also, wasn't expecting Theo to look so neat. I always imagined to look more rogue-ish, like a Han Solo.
