Did they just change the facts that all memories will be erased? Then, what was the point of the experiment then to heal the subjects hearts?

They don't clarify if it is true or not, or if they lied, so I have no idea if it is a translation error or something else.

They didn't change the facts.
This concern was with reversing the memory erasing only focused on Arata and Chizuru because of the connection they have. Everybody else's memories of them are erased in order to keep the company on the downlow and to avoid suspicion when the younger versions of the subjects disappear.
Since Arata and Chizuru are both Relife subjects, both already aware of the program, there should be no problem with allowing them to both keep their memories. However, since this is the first time they've had two subjects during the same experiment, how to possibly reverse the memory erasing effect was scientifically unknown.
The mediacal professionals at Relife are only partially certain that the memory erasing is irreversible. Everything was experimental, so they aren't certain what would happen until the end of the experiment.

@Rulibarri uh this is a pretty forced plot device, though. They must have some control over who gets their memory erased, or the ones involved in the project would be affected too. There's no reason other test subjects would be any different. In fact, I can't fathom technology that has such vague conditions. The pills are more or less acceptable, but this just really hurts my suspension of disbelief.

bro i swear this company is retarded as fuck 😭🙏 i understand you want the subject to change naturally but what the fuck is the support’s role then? A nudge in the right direction wont change a person, their willingness to change and determination will. And their is also 0 reason to erase the subject’s memories of each other.

I think the main idea is to take them out of their bubble and also to give them the feeling of being able to "fix their mistakes" by doing some sort of time travel.

Basically they're getting them out of their desperate, jobless, traumatized hole and putting them in a fresh environment with young people that should help them see that they can shape their future again to avoid ending up like they first did.

I think the support is mainly here to give them confidence and show them the boundaries for their interactions with these kids, just like a side "supporting" cast, they aren't supposed to change them by themselves to begin with, otherwise that whole putting them back to 18 would be useless either way.

And yes, it sounds absolutely retarded to remove the memories of each subjects since they were supposed to keep them anyway
