NGL, I think it's more that the ML is used to a very different personality archetype then the FMC is exhibiting. If every potential marriage partner I was introduced to is some form of a self-centered, self-entitled, gold digger, I too would treat them and the matchmakers with disdain and dismiss further invites and applications.
