I actually really respect the willingness to kill off important characters. It reminds me of Attack on Titan in that regard.
This isn't a case of introducing some meaningless character no one cares about to then kill him, but taking the time to introduce them well in advance, tell their story, and then kill them.

Killing off central characters at the end of the story isn't that unusual. Killing off rather important side characters during the story is a bold move, but sometimes done. Killing off actually central characters in the middle of the story is a very bold move that's rarely done.

The way I see it, the two most central characters are probably Sartain and Twelve, but Kusari being very vital to the plot, but otherwise not receiving as much screen time as either and never having his thoughts shown, and I don't expect any of those three to be killed off soon. Wakakusa is probably fourth in importance and is close to dying now, but we'll see.

Hmm, it seems there's been a Misunderstanding here. With my original Sentence I meant over the whole of the remaining story, including the finale. Not in the next few chapters. Maybe I could have phrased it better. I don't disagree with what you say here after all.
